The dining philosophy behind The George is simply to serve tempting, delicious dishes using the freshest, locally sourced, seasonal produce. You can be confident that our genuine passion for good food, fine wine and excellent ales, means you will be spoilt for choice, regardless of whether you are after light refreshment or an indulgent dining experience.

Diners at The George can either enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the Brasserie, which overlooks the weather-boarded buildings of Stone Street, the Vestry Hall and St Dunstan’s Church, or the acclaimed Restaurant. Alternatively, for a more private occasion, why not book the Montgomery Room, which caters for up to eight people in exclusive comfort.

Cranbrook Bar/Brasserie

Offering an oasis from everyday life, The Cranbrook Bar provides further opportunities to really appreciate the history of The George; traditional wood burners and restored weavers hooks, act as a reminder of the rich heritage that lives within the walls of this medieval building. The bar offers an outstanding selection of traditional Kentish cask ales, a wide range of international lagers and an excellent list of carefully sourced wines from around the world.

Our chef has created an exciting and varied Brasserie menu that will appeal to all tastes and appetites.

The Restaurant

We are very proud to support local producers and believe our commitment to using only the freshest, seasonal ingredients, shines through in the quality dishes we create for the Restaurant’s a la carte menu. Our chef works closely with local suppliers, sourcing beef from reputable establishments such as Park Farm in Hawkhurst, as well fresh fish and seafood from Griggs of Hythe.

Enjoy an array of tempting starters, exceptional main courses and delicious desserts. And why not finish your meal with our renowned cheese card featuring a varied selection of specialist cheeses served with biscuits, walnuts and grapes.

The Restaurant also serves a full English breakfast cooked to order each morning.

We aim to go beyond what you expect, and are confident that your dining experience at The George will be one of the highlights of your visit. We are proud to have received the Shepherd Neame Restaurant of the Year 2012 award.

Serving Times

Food is served at the following times:
Monday - Saturday 12:00pm to 21:30pm
Sundays 12:00pm to 21:00pm

The Restaurant menu is available Monday to Saturday lunchtimes 12:00pm to 15:00pm,
and evenings 18:00pm to 21:30pm.  The Brasserie menu is available all day, 7 days a week.
Sunday Lunch - we have always two roasts, with the traditional trimmings, served 12:00pm to 15:00pm
